Major Sponsors; Dressage NSW , Equestrian NSW, Shoalhaven Council, Bishops South Nowra, St Georges Basin IGA and Catherin McMillan Equestrian Artist.
The Shoalhaven Dressage Club Regional Dressage Championships were held on the 1st and 2nd of November at the beautiful Worrigee Equestrian Common in Nowra on the South Coast. Whilst the weather on the Saturday was hot and windy, as seems to be the norm for our members’ championship for the past few years, the open championships on the Sunday was perfect weather for dressage.
Over 60 competitors competed in 180 tests, from Preparatory to Grand Prix, ages from 10 to competitors of a certain age who don’t need the number publicised. Thanks to our wonderful sponsors we were able to secure the services of four ‘A’ level judges, Sue Cunningham, Gisela Nilsson-Harding, Jill Cobcroft and Jane Bruce.
Whilst the most highly contested classes were the lower levels, there were some fantastic displays of higher level dressage over the weekend. Pam Bice and her lovely pony mare Rosthwaite Tinkerbell took out the Big Tour Championship on the Sunday with 2 lovely tests that certainly attracted a crowd of spectators. Kim McDonald took out the Hygain Advanced Champion with Warburton Regatta, and the St Georges Basin IGA FEI Small Tour Member Champion and the Nowra Saddleworld Freestyle with her other horse Reveller. Ros Quist also gave an inspiring display to win the Bishops South Nowra Open Small Tour Championship. Ros really shows that dressage is not just for the youngsters.
In the lower levels Robyn Targa had some great tests to win the Neversfelde Performance Horses Novice Championship riding her young horse Furst Fling. Robyn also took out the SDC Member Supreme Champion for the highest 2 percentages of the weekend and a special prize also donated by Neversfelde Performance Horses of $100 for the highest official score Novice level and above. Robyn scored a huge 76.429% in the Novice 2.2.
Champion Junior Rider was the very promising Geri Ann Wheeler riding Dunelm Accolade with 2 scores of over 70%. Tanisha Ryan and Northern Lights won the Illawarra Equine Centre Pony Championships; their prize included a free dental by Illawarra Equine Centre.
Thanks to Dressage NSW for your wonderful support for rural clubs, and to all our other sponsors. This support allowed us to provide prize money, championship rugs and some great prizes for all winners and placegetters. Catherin McMillan, a local equestrian artist, donated an amazing watercolour which was won by Flick Mulligan. This support really made our 2014 Regional Championships special.
