Kaleena Matthews has a new horse

We may not see Kaleena out competing on her new horse for a few years. This is because Neversfelde Suri is only 3 months old.

Suri is by Royal Hit out of a full sister to Neversfelde Springbok (Sir Donnerhall/ Harvest Madagascar)

She is certainly a beautiful young filly and we all look forward to seeing her out competing in 4 years time.

Vale Kilburns Cool River

Rochelle Griffin and Kilburns Cool River

We were very sad to hear of the recent death of Rochelle Griffin’s beautiful horse Kilburns Cool River. River was hit by a tree during the tornados that struck in the night of the 23rd of February. River suffered severe injuries to the shoulder and despite extensive veterinary intervention, could not be saved.

Rochelle and River had become regulars at Shoalhaven Dressage Club competitions, and won all three tests they entered in our January competition. Rochelle also won the Local Rider Encouragement award at our 2012 Championships. Rochelle had really enjoyed competing on the lovely River and was devastated by the loss.
We all know how much we love our horses and can only imagine how traumatic this loss must be for Rochelle.

Peter Shaw Clinic 12/13 April

Rider, Judge, Educator, Peter Shaw

On April12th and 13th the Shoalhaven Dressage Club will be holding a clinic with A Level Judge Peter Shaw. Many of you may have had a lesson with Peter on the day before our January competition and experienced first hand his wonderfully positive and insightful teaching style. Peter is in demand around the country to give clinics and we have been lucky to book him for these 2 days.

Peter has ridden and won at FEI level dressage, has won Champion gentleman rider in the show ring, and he has won eventing and showjumping competitions. He has coached riders to win state championships in dressage, and many high performance eventers have benefitted from his instruction. Peter has been an A level judge since 1988 and regularly judges at State and National competitions.
Lessons are open to all club members.
Lessons are $120, the club will be subsidising the ground fee and providing a BBQ lunch for all lesson attendees.
Using spare arenas for private training plus lunch will be $25.
Spectators plus lunch will be $15.
We are hoping to set up a sound system so everyone can follow the lessons closely.
On Friday night, the 12th of April, in the club house at 7pm, Illawarra Equine Centre will be presenting the latest information on the Hendra vaccine.
They will explain the dangers of Hendra, the risks in our area and the importance of vaccination.
We shall also be updated on the performance of the vaccine since its release.
All Hendra questions will be answered.
Attendance is free but space is limited so we would appreciate it if you could confirm your attendance ASAP. Coffee, Tea and biscuits will be provided.
To book a place in the Peter Shaw Clinic or the Hendra Information night please email Cathy Chittenden on chittenden@shoalhaven.net.au

Shoalhaven Dressage Club Competition 24/3/13

Sunday’s hot conditions also saw some hot competition at Shoalhaven Dressage Club’s March event. Highest score of the day went to Jeff Adams on his promising young horse Jazzpers Brush with a 74.815% in the Official Novice 2A. This horse has only just stepped up to Novice and certainly shows lots of promise for the future.

Jayne Unterweger and her lovely pony Greenwood Willona won both of the Official Pony Novice tests. This combination recently won Preliminary Pony Champions and Novice Pony Reserve Champion at the Canberra Classic Regional Dressage Championships. Jayne really has this pony performing beautifully.

Jim Collins rode the lovely Dadirri Songline to win both of the Official Preliminary tests and Carolyn Heron rode her cute little buckskin pony Puff N Stuff to win both of the Official Novice Pony tests. Carolyn also brought out a new pony, X Factor to win the Prep B and Prep C.

Kaleena Matthews had a very successful first outing on her young horse Belingara Fletcher to win both of the Associate Preliminary tests.

Local trainer Tibby Barbour really has her mare Dancing Angelina Ballerina performing well. They won both of the Official Elementary tests with good scores. Another local rider Kim McDonald won both of the Official Medium tests on her horse Warburton Regatta. Kim did 2 great tests especially considering she only came back from holidays a week ago and her horse could not have had much work.

In the young riders Lucy Williams won both the Prep B and Prep C on a new horse Grove Lonely Knight, Jess Steward won both of the Junior Preliminary tests with her lovely big horse Willow and the very promising young rider Angus Fripp won both of the Junior Novice tests on his ever reliable pony Toby.
